Teachers union pleads with schools to require masks

The head of the state’s largest teacher union called on school districts to mandate masks to try to limit the spread of COVID as schools get ready to resume. According to the CDC, there is substantial or high community spread in all but six of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. Forest, Fulton, Mifflin, Tioga and Warren counties have moderate spread of COVID and Sullivan County has low community spread. The CDC’s guidance has recommended that schools implement mask-wearing regardless of the level of community spread. But in the other 61 counties in the state, the CDC’s guidance calls for mask-wearing in all public buildings.
