Interim Principal Program
What is the Interim Principal Program through the Pennsylvania Principals Association?
The Interim Principal Program provides short and long term substitutes to school districts to fill administrative vacancies such as building principals and district supervisors/directors. The majority of interim program candidates are retired administrators with valuable administrative experience to support your district’s needs. All approved candidates are employed by the PA Principals Association with current certifications and background checks as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This arrangement removes any potential PSERS conflicts for retired administrators.
How does it work?
Districts may contact the PA Principals Association to discuss their specific administrative substitute needs. The PA Principals Association will attempt to connect the district with potential substitute(s) who have expressed an interest in subbing in that specific area. If there’s a fit, the Principals Association will develop a contract to outline the details of the substitute arrangement. We’ve also worked with districts who have a retired administrator ready to step into an interim role. By contracting with the PA Principals Association, the retiree and district are protected from requesting a retiree substitute exception from PSERS.
Districts that have contracted with PA Principals for this service in the past include: Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Bermudian Springs, Big Spring, Blackhawk, Carlisle, Cocalico, Eastern Lancaster County, Kutztown, Palmyra, Schuylkill Valley, Shippensburg and Susquenita.
