After new rules became state law in November, schools are required to provide a regular lunch to every student whether they can pay for it or not. The law is meant to prevent singling out students with unpaid lunch bills.

This year, Avonworth High School students arrived at their first period, for the most part, after sunrise. The district recently shifted its first period start time from 7:15 to 8 a.m., and Superintendent Thomas Rolston said his students now pass what he calls "the eye test."

The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s (PDE) Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth (AEDY) Team will host a webinar on January 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.  The webinar is titled, Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth (AEDY) January Monthly Webinar: Truancy. The webinar will be presented by Carol Kuntz, the Department’s Director of the Office of Safe Schools. An opportunity for questions and answers will be provided.

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. On the day of the webinar, PDE recommends that you use the telephone for the audio portion of the webinar.  It seems to be the most reliable.

The PA Principals Association has announced its Aspiring Principals Workshops for Spring 2018 - Previewing the Principalship and Getting the Job-Done Right! - to be held  March 2-3, 2018 at the PA Principals Association Headquarters, 122 Valley Rd., Summerdale, PA 17018. See below for the Workshop flyer/schedule. The workshops will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided.  

The cost for each workshop is $200, but are now being offered for $175, provided to you at a discounted rate through a grant from The Horace Mann Companies.
