Auditor General Eugene DePasquale appeared on Tuesday before the House Appropriations Committee followed by the Senate Appropriations Committee. Many of the same topics were address at the hearings. While his department's request for a $43.6 million appropriation -- a $876,000 increased from this year -- was touched on, the bulk of both hearings was spent discussing a number of other topics.

Pennsylvania, for more than 25 years, has been one of the few states without a reliable school funding formula, leaving school districts to set their annual budgets without knowing how much funding they would receive. Last year, the state’s Basic Education Funding Commission offered a bipartisan proposal for an equitable funding plan. Nearly nine months later, the formula hasn’t been implemented.
