School districts in York County are opposing a proposed statewide earned income tax collection, with some boards passing resolutions telling the legislature to stick with the status quo. House members unanimously adopted a resolution in March to study the benefits of having the state Department of Revenue collect all earned income taxes (EIT), with the idea that consolidation could reduce administration costs for districts.

More students are getting more options for 1% milk in schools this year as a result of a recent federal rule change. Schools across the nation are now allowed to serve 1% flavored milk during breakfast and lunch without applying for a waiver, as they had to in 2017-18, according to new federal guidelines.

Applications for 2018-19 Competitive Equipment Grants are now being accepted. Approximately $1,000,000 in state funds are available for the purchase of equipment for use in the hands-on instruction of students enrolled in Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved career and technical education programs. The equipment must meet industry standards, and both the Occupational Advisory Committee and the local Workforce Development Board must have discussed and recommended each piece of equipment.

This is a competitive grant process. A match of local funds is required.

The deadline for applications is October 9, 2018 at 5 p.m.
