United States Senator Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts) recently sent a letter to Betsy DeVos, Secretary-Designate, U.S. Department of Education, outlining numerous questions that she feels should be addressed in her testimony before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions regarding the education of America's children.

Supreme Court justices were seen as ready Wednesday to clarify and strengthen the rights of the nation’s 6.7 million children with disabilities, perhaps by requiring public schools to offer a special education program that will ensure they can make significant progress.

High school graduation rates in the nation's capital, he noted, have grown faster than anywhere else in the country, from 53% to 69%. But as we've reported over and over again, those numbers are deceiving. While some states are working hard to get kids a diploma, others have lowered their standards or turned to questionable quick fixes.
