Letter: Playing field not level for charter schools

The taxpayers of Pennsylvania are being asked to pony up their hard-earned dollars to support charter schools in what amounts to a rigged contest. Charter schools are public schools that have been designed by state law and regulation to differ significantly from traditional public schools. Charter schools were authorized in Pennsylvania in 1997, and since then the state has followed the national trend toward privatizing education in the name of providing innovation and school choice.
